- With the vertical trim pieces, there were no studs so they had to rely on construction adhesive to attach these to the wall. Ron suggested putting just a dot of glue every few inches along the molding piece. They still nailed the vertical pieces, but just to keep them in place until the glue dried. The real holding power would come from the adhesive.

- Marcie wanted a frame above the fireplace. In the center of this frame, she planned to hang a circular mirror. Ron recommended using corner blocks or plynth blocks to create the four corners. The advantage of using these blocks is that you don't have to cut any miters.

6. Finishing touches:
- With the molding up, they filled the nail holes with spackling compound. Ron suggested using their fingertips for this job.

- While John and Ron were installing the molding, Marcie was wallpapering the inside of each panel. She cut the strips slightly larger than necessary making sure to match up the pattern. She forced out the air bubbles with a squeegee and then trimmed off the excess with a sharp knife.

RESULTS:
Their efforts truly added a lot of dimension, detail, and depth to the room. This was a project that Marcie had thought about doing for a long time but she knew they would never have done it in this much detail by themselves. Marcie showed that with a few strips of molding and a little wallpaper, you can take a room from plain to fancy or contemporary to traditional…whatever look or feel you want to create, it's just that simple! |
