How to Apply Faux Finishes - Tools

Learn how to apply a faux finish; includes details on sponging, dragging, combing and marbling as well as tips, materials and tool lists.

Sponging Tools and supplies:
      Wide bristle paintbrush (or paint roller and pan)
      Natural sponge
      Clean scrap boards
      Wide bristle paintbrushes

Materials:
      Water based, latex flat house paint (3 shades of same color)

 

Dragging and Combing Tools and supplies:
      Wide bristle paintbrush (for painting)
      Wide, short stiff bristle brush (for dragging)
      Combing tool

Materials:
      Water based, latex flat house paint (thinned with water)

 

Marbling Tools and supplies:
      Assorted wide and thin paintbrushes

Materials:
      Contrasting paint colors (Keven used pink, white, gray and brown)
