• Next, they brought in the painted window seat box and slid it in place underneath the lip created by the new ledge. The base was attached to the wall studs by first drilling clearance holes through the back piece of the box and then attaching it with screws.

• There was a slight gap between the front of the box and the floor. To fill that gap, they slid shims into the spaces. This assured that the box was resting firmly on the floor. These shims were trimmed off with a utility knife before the molding was replaced.

• Ron selected a piano hinge, which is a continuous hinge that runs nearly the full length of the top. This was first attached to the lid of the window seat with screws and then carefully attached to the seat.

7. Finishing Touches:

• They reinstalled the trim that they had removed at the corners and around the base of the window seat and their project was complete!

RESULTS:
It didn't take long for Ron to help Lori and Greg transform their old, narrow window seat into a place that is now much warmer, cozier and has some great hidden storage space as an added bonus. Greg may now have a difficult time tearing Lori away from her hot cup of tea and the inspiring view that she had been looking forward to.
