| The process of turning
an idea for a new power tool into reality is an interesting
one, as Ron learns from Techtronic Industries' Jason Swanson.
A vital starting point for any
new tool is feedback from various sources, including the
customer surveys that accompany new products. |
Another valuable source of input
is the experts: the people who use these tools on a daily
basis. |
| |
| This input is provided to designers,
who use it to shape the creation of technical drawings
of the new product. |
Hand-drawn sketches are then converted
into computer images, which illustrate the product's intricacies.
These images are fed into a system
that cuts a rough three-dimensional wax model, using a
laser. |
| |
| After the "rough" model
is approved, a more detailed working model is created.
This model is made out of plastic
and is actually a prototype that can be sent to various
teams for evaluation. |
One of those evaluation teams is
a set of design engineers, which performs various durability
and performance tests. |
| |
| The final product represents a
lot of hard work and input from many people. The result
is a great tool at a low price! |
