Sometimes, having a magnetic screwdriver is very helpful: when driving a screw into wood, for example. Other times, though, such as when working in a metal cabinet, it can make a task more difficult. The good news is that you can magnetize and demagnetize almost any screwdriver by using a household magnet. |

To magnetize a screwdriver, place the magnet on the base of the shaft and pull the screwdriver along the magnet until it slides away from the tip. |

Now, ferrous (iron-based) metal screws can be picked up with ease. |

| To demagnetize, simply reverse the process. Place the tip of the screwdriver on the edge of the magnet and push it forward. |
