How to Choose a Power Miter Saw

Miter saw

A chop saw or a power miter saw is a tool that no shop should be without. It cuts very precise, straight or angle cuts. But when you decide to purchase one for yourself, how do you choose with all the different models, and styles?

The first thing you need to know is what kind of material you are going to cut, and what size. For simple 2 x 4's or 2 x 6's, a 10-inch model would be perfect. For anything bigger, you may need to move up to a 12-inch model.

There's also what's called a compound miter saw, which will actually cut two angles at once; an angle cut and a bevel cut. It's perfect for things like crown molding.

The only thing left is the price. Miter saws start at about $80 but can go up to $600 and even higher.
