Learn how to assemble a purchased kit for a garden shed with sloping roof windows.

Use a roofing nailer to secure the first course/row of asphalt shingles to the bottom edge of the roof with four roofing nails placed so that the next course will hide them. In this first course only, use a double row of shingles, setting the initial layer head-to-toe with the gritty side face up. This orientation places a solid un-slotted piece of shingle material along the bottom of the shingle. That avoids exposing the metal drip cap to rain through the slits in the second layer which you install it in the usual direction. Stagger the shingles in the third and each successive course so that the slits that decorate the visible edge of the shingle do not align from course to course.
