Dial the setting on you mechanical spreader to match the product's recommended application rate for the area that you are covering. The higher the setting, the wider the gate/opening that allows the fertilizer to flow through onto the distribution blades. Too little of the product will not make your grass live up to expectations--too much can kill the grass. Following manufacturer's directions is always the best approach.
