Pour the weed and feed product into the spreader and start walking--or riding if you have a pull-behind spreader. Better quality spreaders have a very desirable feature--an edge guard that directs the fertilizer to one side or the other to prevent broadcasting it into flowerbeds or along driveways and sidewalks. Carelessly applied to flowerbeds, the products kill flowers; left on pavement, the granules absorb moisture and result in rusty brown marks that are unsightly and difficult to remove.
