5. End panels:
They decided to create curved end panels for the bench.
Ron soaked narrow strips of wood in water to ensure that
they were very flexible. As he bent the strip into the curved
shape they wanted, Craig traced the outline with a pencil.
Ron used a jigsaw to cut the pattern out. The first end
panel served as the template for the second.
Before they attached the ends they installed the seat
backs once again using glue and then nails.
After they attached the end panels (again with glue and
nails) they added a piece of trim to the top edge of the
bench.
6. Hinged lids:
The final step was to install the hinged seat lids. Using
a piano hinge, they first attached it to the lid and then
attached the lid to the base. Ron recommended driving in
just a couple of screws first and then testing it to see
how it fit.
RESULTS:
The Richesin's new breakfast nook not only fit perfectly in
their corner but it also could store a lot of stuff under the
seats as well. It was a perfect addition to their dining area,
and a lot of fun too!
