How to Cut and Install Laminate Countertops, Continued

Learn how to install a plastic laminate countertop, includes details on working with plastic laminate as well as installation tips.

8. Sink installation
Once the countertop that houses the sink is installed, place the new sink upside down and trace the outline, or use the template that comes from the sink manufacturer if available.

Draw a second line, which will be the cut line, one-quarter inch inside the first.

Drill starter holes at all four corners of the cut line and then use a jigsaw to cut out the opening.

Attach all of the fixtures to the sink before setting it in place.

A bead of silicone sealant is applied around the edge of the countertop opening and the sink is set in place and secured from below with clips. Finally, the plumbing is reconnected.

A new sink and countertop can transform a kitchen. Selecting a countertop color that brings out the color in the cabinets and paint can make an otherwise bland room look more three-dimensional.
