How to Install a Prep Sink, Continued

Learn how to install a prep sink in a kitchen island; details include how to tap into existing supply and waste lines and running pipe.

The "self-rimming" sink Ron selected was designed to drop in from the top. The watertight seal around the edge is created by the silicone and the clamps that pull the sink down into firm contact with the countertop when they're tightened.

To make the last few hookups on the drain, Ron attached a tailpiece to the bottom of the sink basket, slipped on the P trap, and then connected everything to the drain system.

On the water supply side, all he had to do was screw on the lines from the faucet, snug them up with a wrench, and turn on the water valves.
