How to Install a Casement Window, Cont'd

Learn how to install a casement window; details include modifying the opening, flashing and installation tips, materials, and tools lists.

5. Interior finishing
The first step once back inside is to pack the space around the edge of the window frame with fiberglass insulation.

You can also create the interior sill yourself, from a piece of clear pine. Apply glue to the edge, drive in a few nails from the nail gun, and the new sill will look just like it is part of the window.

Use a pre-primed window casing. To install it, all you need to do is cut miters on the ends and then nail the casing in place beginning with the top, and then moving to the sides. The final step is to install the hardware and the new window installation is complete.

6. Features
The new window is metal clad on the outside, which will greatly improve the maintenance. The new window also features dual pane glass, which is cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Ron's new window also has a low e coating on the glass to reduce fading.

Lastly, the new window has pull down screens, which are handy when you need them, but roll neatly out of the way when they are not in use.

There not much of a before and after here. The new window that Ron installed doesn't change the appearance much, which is actually a plus for Ron, who loves the classic look of the old window. But the new window is far superior to the old one and will provide more comfort in many ways.
