Step-by-step instructions showing how to build and install a post and beam archway from standard planks.

The Podowicz family in Olympia, Washington had completed a few updates and a remodel to their home.  However, they still felt like something was missing. Cathy, the wife, wanted to add an architectural detail that would create a lodge atmosphere. I suggested adding a rustic post and beam archway between the dining and living rooms. The idea was to create the illusion of heavy timbers without actually using them. We accomplished this by boxing rough-cut two by sixes and slipping them over two by four cleats attached to the walls and ceiling.
