This is perfect for what we wanted, thanks! I noted some were concerned about the wood rotting where it touches the ground: I suggest brushing that area with readily-available wood preservative, or for a chemical free method just sit each leg on a patio stone or the like. Local home centers sell 8" x 16" flat stones for about a dollar each.

Just don't like the legs sitting in the dirt, they would rot in a couple of years.

Excellent ! What if I want to use it as a table and put chairs all around it..That what I was looking for and I think all I have to do is raise the legs a bit..Thanks sooo much

There is no need to use any power tool than many more people can make a tree seat, even children.

I am planning on doing this type of design for a scouting project, but for my project, I am going to add a back onto the bench. How many boards of wood did you use in this project?

Looking into this as part of a scout project. What is the maximum tree diameter that the hexagonal design would work for? Should I look at going with an octagonal design for a larger tree? I plan on using pressure treated lumber here in Florida. This will also be built at an elementary school. Thank you. It looks like a fun project.
