Dear Ron: Great simple plans for a do-it-yourselfer. (A woman do-it-yourselfer at that) Thanks for the hurricane tips as I live in central Florida. Never can be to sure about the winds. Only thing a material list would have been good for printing. Maybe there is one, I'll look around the web site. Also, how would you decorate up the posts by adding some patio block? I saw something similar to that at Lowes.

this was gonna be my project this wk.end, but some thoughtful soul decided to remove ALL my tools from...And ya, they tool the whole Constr.Co.Trk.too. The trk.was found this A.M. w/ my Slo Jack....only 3/4 a mile away...mite even call 'em Super Slo Jack.....woooo is me...guess I need better coverage...they even fed my dog...the basturds

I prefer to set the post with small stones in the post holes. Post set in concrete have a tendency to rot at top of the concrete. Water sets at the top. With stones, water will drain.

hey there I am trying to built 2 differents pergola on that isfrom the wall and another the entire pergola 22ft long x 10 feet wide. I need to know the post size like 8x8? 10x10? how long the wood on the top of the pergola size if it is 22 ft long x 10 feet wide? how think this wood? where i can have the information for sizes of the pergola that i want to built? thank you. please some can help me? i try buy reay one but 5,000 to 7,000 i can't afford!!!

Sorry you are not getting away with using that dumb square you used on such a small area without me saying something cause it irks me. Folks have been doing things such as this worldwide for centuries without the western middle class indulgence in these completely unnecessary consumerist products shown often for no other reason but obsessional indulgences in god knows what. For god sake this is a very small area and though the technique can be applied over larger areas such techniques are not all that necessary in such small areas. It is productions and thoughts such as yours that continues to pressure and push me towards primitivisms as your way surely seems like over kill without ever real mention of the finer points of what it all was being done for.

I would like to do this in Alhambra, CA, but I want to weave sunshade fabric over and under the crossbeams that form the roof, to shade the patio and south side of the house from hot southern sun in spring and summer--then remove the fabric for fall and winter (November to May.) The patio runs east/ west, on south facing side of the house. Because we get 60-100 mile an hour Santa Anna winds at least once a year, I don't know "wheather" the attached pergola or the freestanding one is best. The house is old, plaster, 1928, and the neighbors have tried metal awnings and heavy canvas "valet" covers to no avail--they just go up, over the fence, and fly away when the wind blows, wrecking roofs, cars, fences and block walls. My wife now wants a pergola put on top of the patio I put in last year. The patio was poured over our old one and is at least 5 in thick. Due to the way and where the patio is the posts would have to set on top of the patio. Cutting the concrete to bury the post would just be to hard to do. Can the post be set on the concrete and if so what should I use to make it stable and safe. Thanks

Ditto the above. This redesigned site is flowing MUCH better and the pergola project video performed flawlessly. No more short clips - the entire project start to finish! Pergola like this can easily be converted to an outdoor bar/kitchen by adding 3 sides, bar top & built in grille w/ chimney.
