My God, give it a rest please! Some of you remind me of old ladies bickering ... The Brother and sister loved the job Ron did .. So please leave it at that . I do a lot of things around myhouse and I can assure you that I woud not want some of you helping me ... NO common sense...

Finish nailers aren't that expensive--you can pick up a reasonably-priced kit that includes the compressor, gun and hose at most home-improvement stores. They also have electric nailers, but I don't know how well they work.

That said, if you really have no use for a nailer outside of this project, then you can use a hammer. Drive the finish nail in as far as you can without damaging the wood surface, then use a nail set to sink it about 1/8" into the wood. You can use wood filler to fill in the hole and hide the nails. Ideally, you'd fill the holes, let it dry, lightly sand so everything is flush, then paint the crown moulding. I'm not sure why he thought painting it ahead of time was a good idea unless he just didn't care about the nail holes.

As far as the LED strips go--they're brighter than you'd think. This normally wouldn't be your primary source of light, but if you need something brighter, they do make double-density LED strips.

Steve, of course you don’t climb a closed
stepladder unless it is leaning against a wall. And if the rubber foot is
missing the ladder is defective and shouldn’t be used. Warner ladders are made 15 miles from my home
and I have used them for years in my business and in the carpenters union.
Warner has to tell you these things for liability reasons. Read all the warning
labels on a ladder and you won’t want to use them.

Old Lew,If the Werner ladder looses its rubber shoes it is just a matter of time until you find yourself sliding down the wall. I definitely would have trouble working with you, so you do it your way and I'll do it mine. Steve

Sean, in regards to stopping the router. If Ron showed us
everything he did, it would take hours to show the video.

Steve, Werner aluminum A frame step ladders are designed
to lean against a wall and to work off of them.

R.Pagano, Ron said, “We have plugged in the lights.” I would
assume there was an outlet nearby.

I would hate to have to work with some of you guys.

I like this idea and may use it to produce indirect lighting on my cabin walls. It should help me keep the coziness while providing some light.

Sorry Ron, I have to side with Steve. I also cringed when the router stopped and you touched it. I realize you may have unplugged it but I am guessing.

I tried to splice these lights before. Now I hate them. Never could get them to work for me. However, I am willing to try again. It does have a neat look to it.

Steve, good on you. If the little fella corrects you, he is less likely to make the same mistake.

Ron,
A-frame ladders are not designed to lean against a wall to work from - this is a good way to fall on your face. Open them and work from the steps - not the top or the next step from the top.... I'm trying to teach my seven year old grandson and he watches and corrects me quite often.

I have 2 questions: (1) on many of your projects you use a nail gun,they are costly,can a regular hammer be used ? (2) I didn't think the LED lights produced enough light,how do you make more light ?

For the curious....The one end of the strip is already set up to plug in with an electric plug, as you would a lamp.

why did you leave such a large space from the top? It left a strip of brick to be seen. I would have mounted it a little higher up and not leave the strip of brickwork to be seen. Otherwise interesting.

Hello Ron, I did like your information but, you do need to advise on how electrical source comes from I too was not satisfied on DIY it did show step by step instructions. I plan to do this in my husband man cave with a designers touch of course. Thank and keep up the great program.

My question is.. What source did you use to purchase the rope lightsused in this project? If one does a search on 'Rope Lights' they'll receive a zillion different sources, some are not as nice a light quality as others though. Were these 'Cool white' LED's or 'Warm White' LEDs that you used in this rope, too? Thanks.

I think the crown molding should have been higher-close to the bottom of the other wooden molding-so that there would be no brick showing between the new crown molding/lite fixure & other wooden detail. I did a similar project on top of wooden valances & hid the down wires behind the drapery. k

I see I'm not alone in my comment about how the electricity was supplied/hidden. You obviously wouldn't want the wire coming down a wall to a plug. That was the one thing I wanted to see that wasn't shown or explained. I already have a room with crown molding that could easily fit this type of lighting if I knew how to supply electricity to it.

Nice idea, but I am remembering another installation. The ceiling was probably 17ft and the cove molding hid fluorescent lights. The lights attracted moths and flies and the lizards that ate them. No one would have noticed, except that the lizards (about 18-in long) would occasionally make rude noises that sounded like some one cursing. The lights were great and provided nice offset lighting and kept the bugs away from the folk below. It worked!
