Your video on lamp post installation was informative. However, I've noticed in my neighborhood that some lamp post have been installed on top of round patio slabs. Is this wise.

Hi Missy,

Sounds like the wire is exposed and is shorting out when water begins to puddle. This can be very dangerous since one shock can be deadly. We recommend getting a few bids to give you an idea on how to approach the situation and absorb the cost.

Ron,
You started with a flower bed and ended up with electric light... But you never showed running the electric ?

When it rains, my outdoor pole lamp triggers the GFCI in my basement bathroom to cut off electricity to the pole lamp. Once the ground is dry I can reset the switch and the lamp light comes on. My neighbors do not have this problem. What would be the process to locate and correct the problem? Thank you.

i would also suggest checking with local electrical code enforcement. some don't allow direct burial of wiring. in which case you'll need conduit burial. now a clever idea to fish the wire through, is to tie a string to a plastic bag, insert it into the pipe end. at the other end, use a shop vac to suck the string and bag through to pipe. then attach your wire to the other end of the string and pull it through.

Nice or Ron to reply to the questions - huh? Jerk. Anyway - go to your local fence company and see if they will provide a post. The other components are pretty easy to fabricate if you have basic Wood Working skills.

Great video! Can't find a supplier for the pre-finished, and pre-drilled, cedar wood posts for the lantern project you showed in the video. I live in New Hampshire, and would like to know a store or website that sells the post kit used in the video.

Great video! I suggest painting the in ground portion of the post with one or two coats of liquid driveway crack sealer. Protects against potential rotting very well. Lasts for years. JJM

I also can not locate a supplier of 6"x6" cedar "predrilled" lamp post. Lowes, Home Depot and Menards are the Indianapolis area handy man type shops - they have no clue. Being Saturday the major lumber house is closed. Short of framing 2"x6" and 2"x4" to create the 6x6 - my problem is how to create a strong ground support - your article recommends against setting cedar in concrete. The lamp fixture you used was also very nice. Can you provide me with details about it?
