I am confused about using the sawsall to cut the studs - wouldn't it poke through the drywall on the other side as it was going back and forth? I am assuming there is a trick to keep that from happening. Your tips are great - I always learn something, even if I already knew the general tip - you always have some little detail that I didn't know! Thanks

The switch that was removed was a 3 way switch, Where is the program to show people how to relocate a switch or receptacle ? With it being a 3way switch, You have interrupted the travelers that go between the two 3ways. Just want to make sure that everything is explained and shown for home projects.....By the way, Im a retired union electrician.

What about the intercom wires. Didn't removal of the intercom station affect the system?

Seen something like this done before. Very interesting project but the wife isn't ready to give up wall space right now. As far as the drywall screws being left behind, a pair of 'nippers' would get them out of the way. I do agree though that wrestling the cut studs would have damaged the bath wall. I might have been tempted to use a longer saw blade and flexed it to get behind the studs to cut them free. Curious that you had to create access slots to cut the studs, considering the niche is curved and I would have been tempted to cut them flush with the existing cut out opening and toe-nailed/ screwed scraps between the studs. By the way, how were you able to cut the studs without the blade going through the bath drywall. Not an easy thing to accomplish unless you really know your saw. Keep up the good work. I always enjoy the projects.

I put on in sometime ago. I took a magnet to locate the screws on the other side of the wall, and removed them, and putty where they came out of the other wall.

Very nice job, but... what happened to the switch and the intercom system ? I suppose the switch was for a light somewhere, maybe outside, hallway(entrance) or inside?

Great job again! What did you do about the dry wall screws that protruded after you removed the stud? Did the rocking of the stud crack any of the dry wall paste covering them on the bathroom side?

Love the idea. It looked off center-very noticeable. I wonder why since the doorway had a molding to offset you didn't move the item to the other side to take up the inch. It would have required fixing the light switch hole but would have been less noticable as far as being centered. Love you left in the drop of the insert-that is something we would all do...LOL

Regarding the light switch -- it was a three-way switch that the homeowners rarely used and they elected to remove it. The wires were disconnected at the nearest junction box. I apologize for omitting that step, but I decided to stick to the steps involved with installing the wall niche. I did run into a similar situation when installing an arched doorway and, in that case, I included the details involved in moving the switch.
