Sometimes it feels like you need three or even four hands to install an overhead light fixture. But now there's a conversion kit available that makes installing a light like this as simple as plugging it in like a lamp. That makes it easy to take it with you when you move or swap lights in and out for a seasonal change.

Click here for a video of the segment.
This is called the Safety Quick Light System. It consists of two components: a receptacle that mounts up in the box, and a plug. The two literally just snap together.

The first step in converting your chandelier to the system is to turn on the light, locate the circuit breaker at the panel, and flip the breaker to the “off” position. Next, back off the retaining nut and lower the canopy.

As a precaution, use a voltage detector to double-check that the junction box has no current in it. Once you're satisfied that that's the case, pull out the wires and begin unscrewing the wire nuts.

Now untwist the wires and disconnect the ground.

Then loosen the screws holding the mounting strap, and lower the light fixture.
To install the quick-connect receptacle in the junction box, insert the wire ends into the terminal holes.

Fold the wires into the box, and put in the screws that hold the mounting strap in place.

The kit includes this replacement canopy for my chandelier. First, thread the wires through.

Then slip the wires into the terminals on the inside, and tighten the terminal screws.

Now all you have to do is just snap the plug and the canopy into the receptacle in the junction box and turn the power back on.

Now, if you want to take that light fixture down or put it back up again, you can do it in a matter of seconds, just by pushing the button on the canopy and pulling the fixture away.
