The process of turning an idea for a new power tool into reality is an interesting one, as Ron learns from Techtronic Industries' Jason Swanson. A vital starting point for any new tool is feedback from various sources, including the customer surveys that accompany new products. Another valuable source of input is the experts: the people who use these tools on a daily basis.
     
Power Tools-Sketches are then created from the input Power Tools- Computer Imagery is then incorporated into the design process Power Tools- A Wax Model of the tool is then created
This input is provided to designers, who use it to shape the creation of technical drawings of the new product. Hand-drawn sketches are then converted into computer images, which illustrate the product's intricacies. These images are fed into a system that cuts a rough three-dimensional wax model, using a laser.

After the "rough" model is approved, a more detailed working model is created. This model is made out of plastic and is actually a prototype that can be sent to various teams for evaluation. One of those evaluation teams is a set of design engineers, which performs various durability and performance tests.
