How To Mount a TV on the Wall

Have you recently purchased a big-screen TV and now you're wondering how to mount it on the wall like a pro? Well, you've come to the right place! In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of mounting your big-screen TV securely and safely.

How do you determine where to mount your TV?

When mounting a big-screen TV on the wall, choosing the proper height is key to creating a comfortable viewing experience. Start by considering the right height at which you'll be sitting while watching your flat-screen TV. My trick is to place a mark on the drywall at your eye level. Then measure up from there to determine where to drill your holes.

Take into account any windows or light sources that could cause glare on the screen and try to position the TV so that it's not directly facing them.

Also, think about the layout of the room and ensure that the TV is easily visible from your preferred seating areas. Take your time to think this through so you can find the perfect spot to mount your big-screen TV for optimal comfort and picture quality!

What do I need to consider when choosing the right mount?

Make sure that your TV mount can withstand the weight of your big-screen TV, especially if it's an older model as older TVs tend to be heavier. Also, depending on your desired viewing experience, you'll want to get the type of mount that is either fixed, tilting, or full-motion.

Placing the mount on the back of the TV

With a few screws, attach the mount onto the back of the TV. It's a good idea when you are working on the back of the TV to protect the front of the TV with a blanket to protect the screen.

Locate wall studs for secure mounting

Studs are the strongest part of the wall, the vertical supports behind your drywall. Use a stud finder to locate them and mark their positions with a pencil.

Prepare to mount the TV

Some mounting kits come with a template so you can check the placement of your holes on the drywall before you drill. Line up the bracket with the marked studs on your wall. Use a level to ensure it's perfectly straight. Drill pilot holes (smaller than the screws) to prevent drywall damage, then secure the bracket with the appropriate hardware.

My kit came with lag bolts, also sometimes called lag screws (the terms are used interchangeably). These are beefy fasteners designed for heavy-duty jobs. These bolts have a coarse thread pattern and a hexagonal head that requires a wrench for tightening, not a screwdriver. Double-check all connections on the tv mount for tightness. Gently place the TV on the mount and enjoy!

By following these steps and considerations, you can transform your living room into a cinematic haven with your big-screen beauty securely mounted on the wall. Now, grab some popcorn, dim the lights, and get ready to experience your favorite shows and movies in a whole new way!
