When driving nails into molding, nothing is more upsetting than having the hammer head slip and dent that expensive trim work. Well, here's an easy and very inexpensive way to keep that from happening. Start the nail as usual but protect the trim with a strip of wood into which a quarter inch hole has been drilled. Any mis-strokes will land harmlessly on the wooden strip. Once the nail is nearly in, countersink it with a nail set.
